Last week while Sophie was over we went to Visit Millesgården in the northern suburbs of Stockholm. To explain about the gardens a little I’ve taken this from the website:-

‘Millesgården can be termed a work of art in its own right, a nicely balanced stage design of terraces, fountains, stairways, sculptures and columns, coupled with a diversity of vegetation and an immense vista across the waters of Värtan from the rocky heights of Herserud.

It was in 1906 that the sculptor Carl Milles bought a plot of land on the island of Lidingö, and in 1908 he had a house and a studio built there. Carl and Olga remained in this lovely home until 1931. A magnificent donation by Carl and Olga Milles established, in 1936, the Carl and Olga Milles Lidingöhem Foundation. Millesgården was first opened for the general public in the closing years of the 1930s.

Millesgården is still run by the foundation, which includes representatives of the Swedish Government and the Municipality of Lidingö. This unique setting, one of Sweden?s foremost tourist attractions, welcomes thousands of visitors every year. It is open all the year round and the intention is for the museum, aided by exhibitions and activities of various kinds, to continue in the visionary spirit of Carl Milles himself. ‘

Link to their website

Personally I was initially pretty underwhelmed by the place when we arrived, but as I started snapping away I realised that there was more to it than my grumpy feelings. This place was unusual and serene, and the sculptures really leant themselves to me attempting strange photographs of them!

So what do you think? My snapshots don’t do the gardens nor the positions of the sculptures justice – my aim was to simply capture what I found most captivating about the place.

I will be trying to update this a little more frequently with these kind of Outit posts in the future, as it makes me think a little more about what I’m wearing and what works or doesn’t!

So one of the places I went with Sophie was to visit Greta Garbo’s Grave in Skogskykogården, a world heritage site in it’s own right. While there my camera got a much needed outing, and I found myself drawn to photographing mushrooms (go figure!). I’m hoping Sophie won’t mind this picture of her on my blog, aren’t her outfits amazing? Damn awesome Sophie-ness!

The wiki on how to find her grave was a little misleading to me , (and I’m a geologist with pretty good map sense – this map however shows you much better imo) so it took us quite a while to find it, however it did mean working up an appitete, so it’s not all bad. If you were to go search yourself – once you pass the big building on your left (next to the cross) you haven’t passed the chapel they mean in the wiki – the chapel is at the bottom of the hill (surrounded by trees, and with a lovely Angel of Death on it’s roof), and the left turn is just beyond it. The grave itself, while understated, is by itself and in a very obvious position.

What amazed me about the graveyard was how serene it was, and how nature wasn’t shifted away to build it, more that it was all kept together. I didn’t really take many pictures as I thought it would be odd, but I did get this one:-

Looking through a natural archway.

And of course I mentioned that my camera got a much needed outing:- I give to you, mushrooms!

So yes, I hope this wasn’t too boring! Next up Milliesgården and some thoughts on a spa we visited!

Sophie knows I’m a nail polish addict, so understood how excited I got in H&M on seeing this, Razzle Dazzle and Envy Me. I also picked up Cha Cha finally!

Spending cash with carl is a lovely colour, this is two coats – it’s slightly lighter than in the bottle,, and this is with 2 days wear (which is pretty awesome if you ask me). What do you think?

To explain this post a little. It was originally posted by me in a Livejournal community a couple of years ago (before I met Toomaj and moved to Sweden). There are a lot of tutorials on how to do this on you-tube these days, but I felt like sharing this regardless.

Snip snip!

Front

Back (My tattoo wasn’t even complete here!)

Snip and Twist T-shirt
Requires:- T-shirt (preferably the errr finer grained type that roll easily when cut), Scissors, something to hold to bottom with (sewing it together, or ribbon or whatever… havent permanantised mine yet! Optional- Ruler and tailor chalk- if you want to cut on lines.

1. The first step I’ve done is to open out the shoulder area- by cutting it open – you can do this as wide or as closed as you prefer ^.^

2. Fold the t-shirt so that the back is folded in half vertically (middle of the back is the ‘hinge’ point as it were)- this allows you to make the cuts in half the number of snips- and allows greater control over ensuring the lengths are right.

( If you want you can mark using tailors chalk the distances between your snips horizontally across the back- and how far across your back you want it to be open- I just snip and see what happens.)

3. Snip horizontally down the back- taking the lengths as far as you want to go (think mine are about 15-20cm in total). I normally make small cuts all the way down first so i can ensure im cutting the same distance each time.

4. Open the T-shit out so the back is facing you – it should look a little like:-

(added a line where it was folded to before)

5. Now comes the time to twist – take the top cut piece in your hand, and loop it over the second piece down- then taking hold of that second piece through the twist you’ve made, and looping it over the third – then taking the third piece and loop it over the fourth – like this:-

holding the 1st

the 1sthas been looped over, iam now holding the 2nd…

I have looped over the 3rd with the 2nd and am now holding the 3rd- the 4th I am now about to loop over the 3rd

Continuing down.

When you reach the bottom, you will need to somehow stop it unravelling- you can sew it together, or you could just use a ribbon or some such to tie it- I’ve just hasily used some string…..

Et Voila… and of course a worn shot…

There’s no reason you can’t repeat it again to make more detailed patterns- it will decrease the size of the back of the shirt- providing a basic shaping almost!

Done 3 times- made the t-shirt look fitted- drew down at the top, and lifted up at the bottom.

And as worn:-

I didnt do it the neatest- but you can seperate them out or bunch them together as you prefer…

and you can do it a lot neater of course

I hope that makes some sense, or that you can at least follow the pictures to make some sense!

Before I get on to the review I have to tell you – I bought an epilator today! The selling point… it had nail varnishes with it. Hmmm does that make me a sad person?

I decided to order from Green Living Soap for some things for me and for a friends birthday. I was drawn to the shop as the location was near to me, and I do like the idea of shopping locally. I recieved my items within 3 working days which is pretty good.

The link to the shop:- http://www.etsy.com/shop/GreenLivingSoap

I ordered:-

Delicious chocolate lip balm $3.95

Spicy vegetable soap $3.50

Lemon scented hand balm for rough dry hands $3.95

Cold sore relief lip balm $5.50

Lemon grass lip balm $3.95

Rose soaps with lemon verbena scent $2.50

I recieved an extra soap with my order, and also some discounts for the other shops.

All laid out

The lip balms

Hand Balm.

I kinda wish I had something to keep this handbalm in other than the plasticy bag (I might try make something for it), it’s a lovely texture to it, and I’ll certainly be using it this coming winter.

The spicy vegetable soap is quite tiny, but that’s a benefit as I like to change soaps quite regularly. I’m not 100% convinced by the smell/flavour, but the slightly rough texture and unusual shape is certainly awesome.

I’ve been using the lemon grass lip balm for a few weeks now – I adore lemongrass, so it was an immediate hit! It’s vegan, and I think that makes it a little less… creamy, but it applies well, and seems to last a good while. The ‘flavour’ is nice and not overpowering.

The tea tree oil lip salve will certainly be seeing use this winter when my cold sores come out!

I haven’t tried the other things as they were for a friend’s birthday.

Overall I liked the items I’ve bought and I will buy again in the future, I’d really love to try the gingery soap I think was in stock last xmas.

If you follow me on twitter, the you’ll know that I’ve been awaiting a package from an e-tailer in America for over a month now. I waited till it was a month before mailing since I know mail can take time – but I’ve been told to wait another month. Le sigh…. I understand maybe it’ll show up, etc etc, but I obviously got sad that I’m waiting another month before something maybe gets sorted if you see what I mean – though e-tailer wise I totally understand it, just Gemma wise – well it made me a saaaad panda.

So I decided (much to my wallets dismay), to place an order from a store based in Europe Viis on the recommendation of another nail blogger – Solveig (if you don’t follow her already, then go go, she’s super awesome!) I ordered on the Thursday evening, and my items were with me on Tuesday – squee I love Europe sometimes!

I ordered:- Nfu.Oh054, 039, 116 and the aqua base

ooooh aren’t they shiiiiinnnnnnny?

Anyways initally I slapped them on to look at over my current mani, but that was pretty rubbish, so it was clear I needed to do something a bit better. Cue last night playing with China Glaze – Sexy in the City and 054… it didn’t really work.

This is the China Glaze, two coats alone. It’s a lovely colour but really likes 3 coats for a better opacity.

This is with 039 on my thumb (to be curious), and 054 on my nails. I really picked a colour too similar to really show of the sparkles. Which made me sad when I realised this morning.

039 – in the daylight to try show of the mass of sparkle.

While at work I had an epithany regarding using China Glaze – Scroll over the Sexy in the City, to give an almost duo-chrome effect. – this actually worked better than I thought it would (though I failed taking pictures) and I *will* be recreating the look soon so I can show you.

When I got home I decided to add another layer of 054 to see if the flakies were really sad Gem making, or if I just failed the night before. To my squee joy, they are rather awesome added to this mix – the amount of squee sparkle really can’t be shown in pictures, but hell I’ve tried – just imagine it sparkling and looking duchromey at the same time!

(oooh looks I’ve being a fangirl again <3)

I’m in love with this look, and it’s craziness – what do you think?

I’m also amazed it’s dried since it’s:-

basecoat

sexy in the city x2

nfu-oh 054

topcoat

Stroll

nfu.oh 054

topcoat

Going to be fun to remove. NOT!

I used this under one of my Isadora Graffiti looks and loved how it worked out (I notice the awesome p’ssion going for a similar look, so I’m not mad in loving it )

Aaaannnnnyyyyways this is China Glaze, 5 Gold rings – picked up from a blog sale (not 100% sure which one though haha). It takes 3-4 coats for opacity, but man it’s so shiny! Below it’s sitting on my piggy bank and being all chameleon like!

You can see a little bit of nail line still, maybe another layer would still be good.

Lite VNL, kanske en lager till?

Much love for this colour though, I really like my China Glaze it seems!

From - Pink Nail Blog – thank you hun

The Rules:
1. Post who gave you this award
2. State 10 things you like
3. Give this award to 10 other bloggers and notify them with a comment

So No. 1 there is covered already, 2 incoming!

10 things I like

1. Cheese – I’m a big cheese fiend, and really miss UK cheeses like Cheshire, Lancashire, Wensleydale *drools*

2. Wierd Polish – the crackles, the mattes, the glitters, the flakies you’re finding on your fingers weeks afterwards – love love love.

3. Sweden, I’m really happy living here, the stark seasonal changes, winter that is winter, summer that is summer. <3

4. Studying. I never want to stop learning.

5. Crafting. I might not be successful, but I love making things, from bags to clothes.

6. Mail, from e-mails to actual post, I love when it isn’t spam.

7. Dancing like a loon. Belly Dancing, to remembering old ballet steps in the swimming pool to skanking in a club <3

8. Geology, I miss and don’t miss it at the same time – but there was something satisfying about it.

9. Computers, I’m a geek at heart. I wish I understood some things better (yey for Studying) but I love being able to do shit on computers.

10. Toomaj – but that one speaks for itself, right?

Passing the award love

I’m going to suck ass and not actually pass it on – if you want to continue it’s trail then comment below so I can come be nosy at what you wrote
