In support of Lithuania making the final I decided to go for a flag inspired look on thursday – this time I was a little more abstract though. Pity they didn’t but I like my eyes!
Having listened repeatedly to the songs, I now feel ready to reveal my 6 favourite in the contest this year. When it comes to Eurovision I like my music cheeky, random and fun. But how about you? What are your favourites of 2010?
1. Slovakia – Horehronie
Sadly not in the final, and quite slow compared to what I normally go for,but funky none-the-less!
2. Serbia – Ovo Je Balkan
BOWL CUT!!! And music that I really quite like.
3. Armenia – Apricot Stone
Hope it goes through tomorow, quite a lovely song I think.
4. Greece – OPA!!
OPA!!! not really much more to explain, I love its upbeat crazyness!
5. Lithuania – East European Funk
So disappointed! Damn awesome song, even better performance – trust me!
6. Georgia – Shine
Like Shakira in some ways, again a slow one – but quite beautiful I think.
Thats right, Mad as a fish.. I mean hatter from the OPI Alice in Wonderland collection, I know it’s old news for most of the blogosphere, but it made me happy so there!
so I updated the Eurovision look just in time to see my favourite act Lithuania get booted and Sweden to not qualify for the first time ever!
I was ever so disappointed that Slovakia didn’t go through on tuesday, while it’s not really my type of music, I thought the song was interesting and that she *can* sing pretty well. In homage to her song, and as a reason (not that I need any) for an Aromaleigh EoTD with the new Victoria’s Revenge collection - I’ve done this EoTD.
The entry:-
Quite Druidic no?
EoTD – Slovakia
I used my usual base (MAC paint pot in Painterly and Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy)
I used Obscura as a sort of gentle eye liner
Tarnished Strychnin as the main cover for the lids
Private lunacy for above the crease.
Quite druidic, no? I’m really enjoying the new Aromaleigh collection, I’ll certainly be buying a good few full size once my exams are over in June
I was sufficiently impressed with Serbia last night to want to give myself a bowlcut. I had listened to the song before but only last night did it really hit me that it had the elements that I rather like in a song… doh!
Luckily that was the vodka talking, this morning I decided that a Serbian Flag EoTD was much more appropriate!
Serbia EoTD
Used:-
MAC paint pot - Painterly
Fyrinnae – Pixie Epoxy
Sugarpill pressed shadow – Tako
Fyrinnae loose shadow – Curiouser and curiouser
Kryolan – Dry Rouge
For the detail – Fyrinnae loose shadow – Aztec gold, and Kryolan – Dry Rouge.
All freehand, and since I don’t have yellow or green, quite limited.. but ah well!
Sorry Norway, I screwed your flag up this time, Isreal too… Please don’t be angry – I tried! I suppose to be all nice to my new country I *should* get yellow and make some sweden nails. Pity I really don’t like our entry
Right hand, Finland, Estonia, Russia, Greece, Denmark
Left hand, Isreal, Croatia, Norway (the worst I did whoops), Netherlands, France
Using:-
China Glaze Ridge Filler Base
Mavala 49 White
OPI Suzy says feng shui
OPI Red my fortune cookie
H&M Moonless night
Random silver glitter pen
So starting my week of eurovision madness I thought I would start with my 6 favourite Eurovision songs of recent history (2000-2009).
1. Verka Seduchka, Dancing, Ukraine, 2007
The guy is actually a relatively well known drag-lady in the Ukraine, unsuprisingly this catchy and strange tin-foil dance landed them 2nd place in 2007.
2. Todomondo – Liubi, Liubi, Romania, 2008
A quite sweet offering from Romania, I think the speed-up at the end gets me. ‘Everywhere around the world, I love you, it means the same, every day and every night only you can touch my flame’ Only came 13th though, so it didn’t touch the other countries flames as much as it should!
3. Ruslana – Wild Dances, Ukraine 2006
Ruslana came 1st in 2006 with this offering. What’s not to love about the warrior princess style outfit and energetic song?
4. Alf Poier- Weil Der Mensch Zähl, Austria, 2003
Just confusing really, but something endearing about this stand up comic come eurovision singer! Austria placed 6th with this song, compared to the UK coming in last with Null Points thanks to an off-tune Jemini
5. Elvir Laković -Laka, Pokušaj, Bosnia & Herzegovina, 2008
I didn’t know Helen B-Carter had been in Eurovision, or maybe that her Sweeny Todd character had! Musically this one makes my toes tingle in a good way, and it has wierdness in all the right places. For me at least, this song placed 10th.
6. L T United- We are the Winners of Eurovision, Lithuania, 2006
This song must have convinced some people to vote, with them placing 6th in 2006.
And then there’s this…. just WTF…
Finally, Pif, Paf, Pof – from an old UK sitcom called the High Life. (Only need to watch the song part )
I hope that I haven’t lost any readers, and of course this is all my personal reflections. Tell me, what is your favourite Eurovision song/s from the past 10 years?
One of my guiltiest pleasures and the only way I can actually be attached to the tv screen for an evening is happening this week – Eurovision!
Love it or hate it it’s probably the thing that most europeans and even people around the globe can be joined together by having an opinion on. I’m going to spend the week (till I go to England anyway), going through some of the entries and sharing my favourites and the more amusing ones.
At first glance I’m super fond of Latvia and Greece, but that can all change.
Note:- I am now blogging a little in swedish too, the translations aren't exact as I'm trying to write similar but with words and structures that I can put together, haha.
Om du har tid gärna säger om det finns fel. Tack <3
